Vertical Chess

I am not a chess player, but neither was the client. In full disclosure of this non-functional appreciation of the beautiful game, he had me build this vertical chessboard to display a set of chess pieces hand carved by a childhood friend. 

California salvaged black acacia was chosen for the piece to complement the house's Koa floors and the dark tropical hardwood used in the chess pieces. 

Finish: Polyurethane with buffed satin wax.
