You don't see many new caned chairs being made these days. The cane material is made from the peeled bark of the rattan vine, native to Indonesia, the Philippines and Malaysia. It has an organic warmth and elasticity that is unparalled by manufactured materials so it was with great delight that I got a chance to build these chairs that not only paid homage to the tradition of caned chairs but challanges assumptions of what a caned chair should be. 

Chair frame is built from 8/4 Eastern Walnut and finished with a wipe-on varnish followed by a satin wax.
