60th Street Vanity
Though I work with wood everyday, even I forget how much of a statement it can make. Often all it takes is a straightforward design and a good finish to showcase the wood's natural beauty and allow its warmth to interact with the other materials and colors in a space.
This walnut double vanity was designed to maximize storage space in a tight bathroom. It houses two sinks, a pair of pull out cabinet drawers, three central dovetail drawers and under sink storage. A double coat of shellac sealer and three coats of water based polyurethane bring out the luster of the rift sawn walnut, a highly valued cut of the wood, and highlight its blond and deep brown contrast striping.
The homeowners thought long and hard about the interplay of colors in their new home and were delighted with how well the walnut complemented the blue bathroom tile from Heath Ceramics and the blonde quartz countertop.
